Which States Pay The Most For Electricity?
What Gavin Newsom’s taxpayer-funded propagandist doesn’t want you to know is that electricity rates have been rising steadily before President Trump was back in office.
They also don’t want you to know that electricity rates in California are significantly higher than the rest of the country, for obvious reasons, such as the Public Utilities Commission is in bed with the Democrat party.
My wife and I were born here and have seen how the cost of living has gone through the roof since Democrats took over the state. Literally, Republicans have had little to no influence in the legislature for many years.
For example, we are paying 38-47 cents per kWh, depending on the time of day.
To avoid $600-$700 PG&E bills in the summer months, we are on an averaging plan based on 12-months of usage. Keep in mind that we are a household that keeps temperatures in the low 70s; our thermostat is set at 82 degrees in the summer.
Here is a meaningful chart showing electricity rates around the country.

We are paying way more than shown in the above chart, but rates vary depending on the electric utility and location, as noted by a few people below.

But it’s not just the cost of electricity that is burdening California residents; we have the highest cost for gasoline in the nation.
- City Journal: California’s High Gas Prices Are Self-Inflicted – Policies that restrict supply and raise costs are punishing drivers while doing little for the environment. – California’s average is now nearly $6 per gallon, 40% above the national figure. – State policies restrict supply, mandate costly compliance, and isolate the state’s fuel market from the rest of the country…
- California Globe: California’s Gasoline Supply Outlook Is A Disaster in the Making – As of the week ending April 3, 2026, combined gasoline and crude oil inventories stood at 9-10 days of supply. – Based on the available public information, these levels appear to be at five-year lows and roughly 10-20% below historical norms.
- American Thinker: Gas prices are spiking in California – California’s sky‑high gas prices aren’t driven by war or oil shortages; they’re homegrown. – Endless taxes, green regulations, refinery closures, and fuel‑blend mandates crippled supply and hiked costs. – Media blame Trump but ignore Sacramento’s real role in destroying affordable energy independence.
And if you are unfortunate enough to live in major metros such as Los Angeles, there is the rampant crime and homelessness that residents there have to deal with.
And to top things off, due to California policies, homeowner insurance rates are outlandish, and it is almost impossible to get insured in some areas.
I’m done bitching now.
Have a nice day.
