This rings true to me strongly, because as a young married head of household that was the sole provider, my family and I experienced it first-hand. I remember getting in line in the wee morning hours to get my allowed number of gallons in the family car.
In the 1970s, the U.S. economy fell into stagflation, with high unemployment and high inflation at the same time.
Government attempts to stimulate the economy only drove prices higher.
At the same time, American economist Milton Friedman proposed a different solution: keep the money supply stable and let the free market do the rest.
