The Incredible President
The “President’ is the name of a giant sequoia tree located in the Giant Forest of Sequoia National Park east of Visalia, California. The tree was named after President Warren G. Harding in 1923.
My wife and I saw it many years ago when we lived in Novato, California.
The tree is believed to be at least 3,000 years old.
It is not the tallest giant sequoia tree in the world with a height of about 241 feet (73 m), nor the widest at about 27 ft (8.2 m) in diameter at the base, but it is the second largest tree in terms of volume in the world.
Not every tree has a nickname, but ‘The President’ has earned it. This giant sequoia stands 247 feet tall and is estimated to be over 3,200 years old.
The trunk of the president measures 27 feet across with 2 BILLION needles from base to top.
Because of its unbelievable size, until now, the tree has never been photographed in its entirety.
A team of National Geographic photographers worked with scientists to try and create the first photo that shows the president in all its glory.
They climbed the tree with pulleys and levers while taking thousands of photos. Of those, they selected 126 and stitched them together to get an incredible portrait of the President.
I think you will have to agree that “This President” is pretty incredible.
